Alan R. Yee, MD, FCCP, embarked on his medical journey by earning a Bachelor of Arts degree from Pacific Union College in Angwin, California, in 1971. He then pursued his Doctor of Medicine degree at Loma Linda University in Loma Linda, California, graduating in 1975. Dr. Yee continued his medical training with an internship in Straight Medicine at Loma Linda University Medical Center, followed by a residency in Internal Medicine at the same institution. He further specialized in Pulmonary Medicine through fellowships at Loma Linda University Medical Center and the University of California, Davis Medical Center.

Dr. Yee also dedicates his time to the Sacramento Zoological Society Board, striving to nurture the growth and integration of the Sacramento Zoo within the local community, a cause close to his heart given his upbringing in the Land Park vicinity near the zoo.
