October 1984About the Physician
In college, Dr. Ikeda found that he was very good in the sciences. Coupled with an intense desire to use his abilities to help other people, medical school was a logical pathway for him to choose. Early in his training, Dr. Ikeda found that he was really good at caring for critically ill patients. In addition to his passion for treating pulmonary diseases and critically ill patients, Dr. Ikeda found that he enjoyed the problem solving nature of infectious diseases. All this skill and passion led him to complete multiple medical specialty fellowships.
After completing his fellowships at the University of California, Davis Medical School, he joined Pulmonary Medicine Associates. He likens his relationship to the physicians he works with to a brotherhood. Dr. Ikeda has stayed at PMA because of the great staff. He has said if he ever gets sick he wants one of his partners to care for him. He also enjoys living in the Sacramento area – saying it has been a great community in which to raise a family. He also appreciates the close proximity to Tahoe, Napa, and San Francisco areas, and he enjoys spending his spare time with his wife and children.
Over the past 10 years, Dr. Ikeda has had many interests, but the two areas that have consumed him most recently are the reduction of patient mortality in the treatment of sepsis and the development and expansion of telemedicine in the intensive care setting. Dr. Ikeda considers himself a life-long learner.
